Mums & Joan Visit Athens

Here's the short version . . . . . . I promise!
ZTA's made a banner for our VIP guests . . .

We go by Phi Mu to see their newly decorated living room; getting ready for the 150 birthday celebration of their house this weekend.  Ann Winger gives us the nickel tour.

Katie Cloud comes to dinner on Wednesday night . . . .

Just before dinner we take a quick photo . . . . [not very good] ZTA Gals with "Miss Joan, Mums & Miss Becky" - Ashley, Katie, India [Buckhead & Woodward], Jo Ann, Joan, Keri, Becky & Mallory

Wednesday night after ZTA dinner, we go to the New Member/ DDD Alumnae Social at Tri Delta.

After the social we go downtown to The Winery . . . Mums and Joan @ The Winery in Downtown Athens sitting outside during an early fall evening.

Thursday morning we awake to Eggs Benedict at ZTA, followed by a few games of bridge with the Tri Delta House Mom.

Griffin comes to visit on Thursday afternoon; Mums & Griffin @ ZTA.

Later on Thursday afternoon Jo Ann and Joan have their pictures made to go on the ZTA Composite as ZTA House Grandmothers. After composite photo's, we head to the movies to see Vicky Christina Barcelona - we all love it - laugh out loud movie.  Joan's idea and we were so glad; written and directed by Woody Allen.

Thursday night Ann Winger invites us to go to the home of CL Morehead, the largest private collector of Lamar Dodd artwork.
Ann was in the right place at the right time and got us a invited!  This event is for the rich and famous of Athens who have made substantial contributions to the arts in Athens.  We enjoyed cocktails, seated dinner and a private tour.  Our party favor was a fabulous coffee table book about Lamar Dodd with color photograph's of the entire Morehead Collection. We also met some famous professor from Sweden, Lars, and his even more famous musician wife from Greece.

Now . .  a mad dash from this event to the Tasty World in Downtown Athens for a fund-raiser; I am scheduled to bid on my friend, Brad Harris/ATO, for the UGA HERO's auction at 9:30. Mums & Joan are loving it and go along for the fun. The Mom's actually met Brad last visit when they came and visited me at Theta.

Our winning bid was $300 - of course ATO underwrites the money, Brad just wanted several people bidding on him.  Since I introduced him to his Theta girlfriend last fall, he wanted me to be part of the bidding . . . great guy.

Upon leaving Tasty World, we all hear this person yelling out my name . . . Miss Becky!!!! It's Casey Denny, Charlie's daughter, from Carrollton. She's a Theta and they were out for a costume social - Casey Denny, Mums & Joan-Downtown Athens.

When we weren't out and about, we solved many of the world's problems and also put a few finishing touches on our trip to Switzerland and Austria next summer.

Let's just say that a good time was had by all!
Katie Nicholson Truex is in San Francisco this weekend and all next week on business; Harrison is visiting his family in Tennessee.

Happy Weekend . . . . .
GO DAWGS!

Today was the most glorious day in Athens . . . . a cool breeze blowing and 72 degrees! My Mom and Joan Jones are coming tomorrow from Carrollton to spend two nights with me at ZTA Resort and Spa. I'll report on that next time. The girls do have a special sign for them - I know they will love!!!

Charlee, McGregor, Courtney and Lauren at EX Date Night with Miss Becky @ ZTA!

The EX's and Miss Becky during Date Night.

Since I have last checked in I have had 2 Date Nights With Miss Becky at ZTA and both were marvelous.

Just to explain - every Tuesday night I invite 10-12 young men over to dinner from a particular fraternity so that they can meet my ZTA gals. The gals love it as do the gentlemen. Thus far, I have been fortunate to have a connection at most of the frat houses. I'll know someones son, someone from my neighborhood, the AAC or whatever. I have my contact determine our guest list of 'non-attached' young men. They come to ZTA at 6:00. We all meet in the living room and I introduce my contact friend. He then introduces himself by telling his hometown and where he went to high school, where he lives now, and a fun fact. These are hysterical. This is the routine for all of the guys.

At dinner, only 1-2 guys can sit at each of our dining room tables so they can get to know the gals. During dinner they get to ask the questions. By the end of dinner everyone knows each other, they are making plans to see each other at upcoming socials, etc. It has been very successful and we are already booked every Tuesday through November 18. We will start again next semester. At the end of the school year we will host the "Invitational" - we'll invite those gentlemen that we were most impressed with who have become our friends and that are really nice guys.

Last week we had some young men from Kappa Sig over for dinner . . . but they kept multiplying. I realized about half way through the introductions that many of the guys were texting. I thought it was kind of rude . . . but whatever. Actually what was happening, as I discovered later, was that they were getting in touch with other brothers from the house and telling them to get over to ZTA!!!

The were real charmers when they were sharing their fun fact. One guy said that his favorite thing to do was to taking long, moonlit walks on the beach and that his favorite book was The Notebook. The next guy said that his fun fact was that he needed a date for Thursday night for KE's Date Night . . . and the next one said that . . . . and the next . . . and you get the picture. We adjourned from the living room, and began dinner. Three young men came in and approached me and said they were so sorry they were ate but could they please join us now. Then five minutes later 4 more guys came. Before dinner was over we had 20 KE's having dinner with us.

Just before dessert I asked our newcomers to stand and introduce themselves; they gave their name and immediately said that they wanted ZTA dates for Thursday night as well. so I did what any good House Mom would do; I kind of auctioned them off. 9 dates were arranged and I understand fun was had by all!

Tonight we entertained the Sigma Chi's. This was a blast for me as I had Tat and Howell Thompon's son, McGregor, in charge of the evening with Sigma Chi. We had a great group and they were fabulous - lots of laughter and what seemed to be an extended dinner hour! My cute friend Webb Worthington was also with us and he had come straight from UGA Dive practice. ZTA actually has a Social with EX on Thursday so plans were being made all around.

Go DAWGS!!!

OK . . . just to let you know that I am still alive and well in Athens . . . . Sometimes I feel as if I am a million miles away from you all but know that I think of you soooo often. Come visit soon!

MANY CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Katherine Cloud, who was officially awarded her Ph.D. from UNC on Thursday of last week!!!!! Hurray!!!!

Last Friday I left Athens to attend Shaun's surprise 50th Birthday Party. Matt planned such a great evening and we all had a blast!!!
My sister-in-law, Pat Reynolds, and her friend Lisa, spent the night at ZTA and were the 'official ZTA House Sitters" while I was in Atlanta.

Of course I stayed at the Cloud B & B and had a great time. We all got up early on Saturday to get ready to head back to Athens.

When I got back to Athens, I was invited to a ZTA tailgate with the older crowd and some of their parents. I'm 6th from left. While I was with this group, I ran into several ATO's from my days on campus . . .

I left the ZTA tailgate and headed down Baxter to Sigma Chi.

Me and McGregor Thompson

Joe Turrentine, Polly & Tom Cloud at EX

Katie and Karen Lock met me here; Harrison was busy in Atlanta and couldn't come :(

Karen Lock, Mom Jamie Walker Tassa, Grand Mom Gail Walker and Pierce Tassa at EX
It was grand to meet Mr. Pierce Tassa, he is adorable!

Karen Lock & Katie @ ballgame; we all loved watching Knowshon hurdle over the head of our opponents . . .

I promise that we really are at the UGA Soccer Game on Sunday afternoon. . .
Here's proof! I am trying to make sure that I participate in everything at least once.
This was my last soccer game as well . . . . didn't have a clue what they were doing.

UGA vrs. Stanford on Sunday

This morning I attended the funeral of long time friend, Susan Duke's husband, Leroy Dukes. Susan was a Tri Delta advisor that we all loved when I was at UGA. She is about 13 years older than I am and we all thought she was old when we were in school. Can you believe how old these girls must think I am????????? At any rate, the funeral was a great celebration of Leroy. Coach Dooley spoke and recalled so many funny stories about Leroy. My favorite stories were of he and Susan and their generosity and that he owned the Frog Pond Lounge at the Ramada Inn in Athens. He let all of us DDD's have an open tab at his bar and he loved us.

Tonight at Chapter Dinner the entire UGA men's Swim/Dive Team came over to encourage us to attend their meets. It was hysterical. Webb Worthington, a Diver/EX/former Wesleyan student introduced the group to us and then announced that the Freshman had a special dance for the ZTA's. They sang some rap song and started taking it all off . . . down to their swimsuits. Everyone was loving it and we were all cracking up. Soooo, as any marvelous House Mom would do when they were finished, I invited them all to have dinner with us in three weeks. They happily accepted and the girls loved it!

That's about it for this past week [at least the high points]. It's still great to be a Georgia Bulldog. I'll be in Atlanta on Saturday and Sunday; Katie Cloud is House Sitting for me at ZTA.

L & K, Becky
I wanted you to see UGA's new air conditioned house close up!

My ZTA, Liz, is to the right of the house.

Labor Day Weekend

Hi everyone,

Wanted to catch you up on life at the ZTA & DDD House and in Athens. Here's a quick look at a few of the fun things we have done lately; Bid Day, Date Night, a social and the Tailgate Party. If you weren't in Athens on Saturday, it was 100 degrees at least but a great day none the less! Jim, Pat and Tucker spent Friday night with me arriving about 11:30 after watching Westminster kill the Trojans. Before that, Katie and Harrison drove in and we met at Katie Cloud's and headed downtown; we met Dax at DePalma's; we then went to the Lambda Chi Band party at 11:30. We left at 1:30 because the band had not started yet . . . . Afro Man - I heard them last year and it is quiet the show to say the least. Katie and Harrison spent Saturday night here. The guest room is perfect during football season. . . .

After the Tailgate party at ZTA on Saturday morning, we all walked down Lumpkin to Sigma Chi for tailgating before the game. UGA VII was one of the star's of the show yesterday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Caroline!!!!!!! I'l be in Atlanta early in the morning before heading back to Athens later on. Hope you all have fun tomorrow. Take care and see you soon.
L&K, Becky

PS to Barbara - Cat came by Saturday morning for the tailgate party and I also saw her on Thursday night at the Phi Mu Social - she was precious
