January is NOT a Down Month in Athens!

I really thought that January in Athens would find me organizing photographs from the last several years, learning to knit and as Polly says, 'joining some other fun groups in Athens." But alas, January in Athens is just as busy as any other time.

The Beta pledges came by to serenade me earlier in the week . . .
In addition to the Dance Dogs Mother-Daughter practice, it seems that I can now add the title of Marketing/Promotions Director/Publicist for a fabulous up and coming band to my resume along with dancer!

If you're not laughing now, you should be.

MacGregor Thompson [blue shirt, son of Tat & Howell in Waynesboro] and Webb Worthington [green shirt, son of Piper and Bobby in Dunwoody] are trusting me to promote their newly formed 'High Tide' around Athens.

These are 2 wonderful young men [Sigma Chi's] whom I adore. They had their first gig on Thursday night at Lansdowne Road Irish Pub to standing room only. It doesn't hurt them that I have 350 friends on Facebook . Their next event is at Between the Hedges on February 5. You should all really come - it is a blast! MacGregor plays the acoustic and electric guitars and Webb is on drums. They have a great play-list and are working on more.

MacGregor is playing for a ZTA philanthropy for me in February;

Webb will be competing at the SEC Men's Diving competition that night. He's a senior so this will be a special meet for him.

Here Webb is on the tallest platform practicing some 3 rotation, double twist, something, something- I feel very fortunate that I am invited to their practices! He seems to always enter the water long and straight!

Friday night, Katie, Karen Lock and Meagan Maron came for a visit. They stayed with me at ZTA and we all went to the UGA Gym Dogs meet against Alabama. Courtney Kupets scored 2 perfect 10's; UGA won the meet.

After the meet we headed downtown for dinner and to take in the downtown scene.

Katie Cloud, Megan, Becky, Katie & Karen outside Last Resort.

And then came Saturday and the ZTA Formal. The new pledge class came over around 5pm with their dates and the old reliable 'Pic-Man'. The girls were presented to the other members; their date met them at the bottom of the staircase with a red rose and then Pic-Man had a field day. The entire chapter and dates boarded buses to a plantation about 25 minutes away for dinner and a band party. They returned in mass around 12:45am - quiet as angels all coming into ZTA. They then loaded into cabs to head downtown - the party goes on.

Whatever happened to Poss's Lakeview, a band that didn't cost $5,000, a cooler and a great time had by all? Oh, I digress.
The girls are great - here's a quick pic with some of my in-house gals.

I am still planning 600 meals a week and ordering the food to prepare it; I have a landscape install going on right now; Winter Recruitment starts this week - a much abbreviated version; Charter and Shumate have both paid visits to ZTA this week [it's only Monday], I'm organizing a ZTA library with help from the parents; we've planned Parents Weekend and also the Cluck for the Cure events scheduled for February; and we're in the process on making a ZTA prayer room in extra space in the attic - it will be great!

I hope that you all are hanging in there this January. Spring Break in Athens is the second week in March . . . . . any ideas?
Love and kisses, Becky

The Joys of ZTA Motherhood!

Life as a Mother is always so interesting. It seems that one of my 'ZTA daughters' needs me in a way that even astounded me!!! Kelsey is a member of the UGA Dance Dawgs - a highly competitive dance position - that performs at all UGA men's and women's basketball games. It seems that they annually have a Mother-Daughter dance event at halftime of a game. Her biological Mom has refused to even discuss participating so the job/opportunity/deed has been turned over to me.
Here's precious Kelsey in the long, dark hair on the right!

I have had Dance Dawg practice tonight to learn TWO routines for the halftime entertainment and I am EXHAUSTED!!!!!!! But I am happy to report that I have gotten both routines down - not the 'attitude' yet - but the steps. The first is a oldie 50's number about doing the swim; the second is a hip-hop number that I am TRYING my best to master.

Kelsey says that I am fabulous and that I have learned so much this first practice. Of course . . . what could she say . . . . I am subbing as her Mom!

More to come. GO DAWGS!
